Charmeuse Silks

Description

Charmeuse is made with a satin weave which is soft, yet supple and drapes beautifully. Fabric is woven with a satin weave, where the warp threads cross over three or more of the backing threads. The front side of the fabric has a satin finish, lustrous and reflective, and the back has a dull finish.

General Uses

Charmeuse is most often used for loose-fitting, drapey blouses and dresses, bridal gowns, slinky evening wear, nightgowns and lingerie. Charmeuse is somewhat difficult to sew because it is so slippery. Pins and needles leave marks, so pin only at the edges. It doesn't unravel much, however.

Fabric Care

If you wash charmeuse before cutting it out, you can wash it after it is made. It tears easily, so handwashing is best. Note: pre-made Charmeuse garments most likely have not been washed and may pucker if laundered. Best to Dry Clean off the rack charmeuse items, or wash with care. Click on the fabric care buttons to the left for more information on washing silks.

Colors

Charmeuse is popular. We stock white and ivory, as well as several colors. Call /e-mail for current colors and quantity on hand.
